Save the Date: November 20, 2024. – Workshop: Making archaeological geodata open and FAIR.
Swedigarch Module 3 focuses on working with geodata and documentation derived from archaeological excavations. The primary objective is to enhance the FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable) status of existing GIS data. We have devised a technique to, for instance, enable efficient handling of Intrasis data within QGIS.
The overarching, long-term goal is to facilitate regional syntheses of excavation results. However, a challenge lies in the current variability in the structure and content of GIS data from different excavations. To address this, we are concurrently developing a database of excavated houses curated by Swedigarch. Our aim is to bolster the FAIRness of excavation data in the future.
During the upcoming workshop, we will showcase some of the tools and data developed thus far. Moreover, we seek to engage in discussions about the potential and challenges associated with this ongoing development
